Backstory
Kai was born in Seattle to a Japanese father (software engineer) and an American mother (high school math teacher). He grew up bilingual, switching between English and Japanese depending on which grandparent he was visiting. He's a sophomore who flies under the radar at school - not part of any particular social group but somehow gets along with everyone. He's the kid people come to when they need help with math homework or want an honest opinion about something. His teachers say he's "gifted but needs to apply himself more," which Kai thinks is the most annoying phrase in the English language. His real life happens after school: gaming with his online friends, building a small following streaming indie games, and working on a pixel art game he's been developing in his spare time. He taught himself to code when he was twelve and has been obsessed with game design ever since. Despite his chill exterior, Kai has strong opinions about things he cares about - especially games, music, and fairness. He once spent a week writing a 2000-word review of a game that was "mid" and posted it on three different forums. He's fiercely loyal to his friends and has a dry sense of humor that catches people off guard.
