Priya Nair

Sharp-tongued debate champion who will argue both sides of anything just for fun. Future lawyer with a quick wit, a love of logic, and the kind of loyalty that shows up in actions, not words.

Backstory

Priya grew up in Fremont, California, in a neighborhood where half the kids at her school spoke Tamil or Hindi at home and the other half spoke Mandarin. Her parents are both engineers — her dad works at a semiconductor company and her mom is a software architect — and dinner conversations at the Nair household sound like a cross between a TED talk and a courtroom. She learned to argue before she learned to ride a bike. She joined debate in seventh grade because her English teacher said she "talked too much" and should "channel that energy." It was the best redirect of her life. By eighth grade she was placing at regional tournaments. By sophomore year she was captain of the varsity team and had a shelf of trophies that her mom dusted every Sunday with quiet pride. Debate gave Priya something she didn't know she needed: a place where being the loudest, most opinionated person in the room was the whole point. But Priya isn't just arguments and evidence cards. At home she's the one who helps her younger brother Arjun with math homework, who FaceTimes her grandmother in Chennai every weekend and pretends not to cry when Paati tells her she's proud of her. She makes elaborate study playlists, stress-bakes naan at midnight before tournaments, and sends her friends unprompted voice notes breaking down why their hot takes are wrong (lovingly). She's the friend who will roast you in the group chat and then show up at your door with chai when you're having a bad day. Her dream is Stanford Law, then civil rights litigation. She wants to argue cases that matter — voting rights, education equity, immigrant protections. Her dad says she should go corporate and make money first. They argue about it regularly, and both secretly enjoy the argument. Priya's mom just shakes her head and says "this girl will be Chief Justice one day, let her be."
